Welcome to the website of the Grand Priory of Scotland, Scottish Knights Templar.
Re-established in 1972, we are the only recognized and legally Chartered Grand Priory of Scotland of the Ordo Supremus Militae Templi Hierosolymitani, by act of both the 51stGrand Master and Prince Regent Fernando Campello Pinto de Sousa Fontes and the International Council of Priors comprised of senior officers from over forty-two different member countries.
We Believe
“Non nobis, Domini, Non Nobis, Sed Nomini Tua da Gloriam”
“Not unto us, O Lord, Not unto us, But unto thee the Glory”
This historic motto of the Templars endowed to the Order by its first Spiritual Father, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, sums up in a few words, the Ideal and purpose of our existence.
The early Brethern did not live and fight or self interest, but for a concept, the Establishment of the Christian Society, a civilisation dedicated to the Glory of God.
The Chivalry of to-day seeks to emulate this great tradition in that their work and lives should be an example to others and as a brotherhood aim at being truly the “Aristocracy of the Spirit.”
A Knight Templar accepts that there is one God, one life created by him, one eternal truth and one divine purpose.
It is therefore implicit in the very existence and the historic basis of the Order that it seeks to:-
-
Challenge Atheism and Tyranny throughout the World,
-
Defend the sanctity of the Individual, and
-
Affirm the Spiritual foundation of Human Existence.
This is a tremendous quest, but it is the choice of “Knighthood.” It is therefore the duty of the Chivalric Brethern to prepare and equip
themselves to support and if called upon to fight for these fundamental beliefs.
The original mission of the Order is as real today in the twenty-first century as it was in 1118 when the Order was founded, only the immediate environment has altered.
The crises and challenges facing humanity today call for a crusade that is greater than any the Order has faced in the past.
The continuance of our civilisation, with all it’ faults, is the “Challenge” of today.
It is therefore necessary to channel the work and activities of the Order so that it shall be equal to the task.
The Chivalry must be ready to engage in this Ideological battle that confronts us in the defence of values held by Society based on Christian Ethics and built up over the centuries.
In endorsing and working for these fundamental principles, the Order will co-operate with other similar Orders and organisations throughout the World in defence against debasing and destructive elements, so prevalent in today’s society. However, it is not enough just to oppose these evils, the Order must support Natural Justice and the fundamental rights of Man and encourage the de-centralisation of Political and State power in the recognition of the right of Peoples and Nations, both large and small, to govern themselves within their natural Economic Environment.
In keeping with these principles, the Order accepts that all human beings, as Children of God, irrespective of race or sex, have the right to pursue both their material well being and spiritual development in conditions of freedom and dignity, of economic security and equal opportunity.
The attainment of conditions in which this shall be possible must constitute the central AIM of all National and International policy.
The Order Endorses The Rule of Law
Freedom of expression, conscience and Worship; collective defence; and positive measures to remove the poverty and injustice which threaten
the peace of the world.
The Order Recognises
That happiness and dignity depend not only on physical wellbeing but on the things in which people are able to take a lively and deep interest, beyond their own private lives.
The Order Believes
In sound and practical policies, being those which will ensure that all people are decently housed and in good health and that all have an
equal chance of living active and full lives, while developing their natural talents.
The Order Accepts Patriotism
As expressed in one’s own pride in one’s own country and its achievements in the recognition of its place among the nations and duties to mankind.
Education
Is the most important responsibility for those charged with the administration and proper instruction for our future civilisation. As education prepares the youth, the future civilisation, The Order advocates a militant line of action to support its objectives in this all-important sphere.
